if your not into LOOOONG LOOOOOOOOOONG Rpgs, then you may as well uninstall it and go play final fantasy or something. Baldur's gate is probably one of the greatest RPGs ever made, but it's not for everybody. I really don't feel like getting into this with someone who probably wont ever get into the game, but if your opinion of a good RPG involves phoenix downs or turn based combat then just quit now. It isnt for you.
if you mean the Diablo 2 kinda fun, then no. BG isn't about hectic, all out action....it's about the immersing yourself into the story ( which could just turn out to be not your cup of tea ) and planning your battle tactics carefully to outlast the torrent of foes. Bioware's DnD rules is one of the most sophisticated rpg systems, and it might take a new comer a long while to get into and have fun. my advice -- do some research and create a character that would really last through the entire game ( which is long ).
I remember being totally bewildered by...a lack of...bewilderment. There's a lot of interaction with the interface, and the quantity of fun found therein is completely dependent on the nerd at the keyboard. I wasn't one of the lucky ones - I went back to Diablo II.
when is it supposed to get fun?
Since the beginning in Candlekeep, up to the point where you get to the Throne of Bhaal.
I never bothered to finish Baldur's Gate - it was the only Bioware/Interplay/Black Isle RPG I didn't play through multiple times, since it was rather boring.BG2 is less boring, I suppose, since you're constantly being forced to rush around the countryside doing side-quests in order to keep your party members from leaving.
I like story based games... how long is it? I don't really care, just wondering... what I really want to know is where to get it.

Baldur's Gate 1 and II are on there, along with other great Bioware games like Icewind Dale 1 and II and Planescape: Torment!
