07/08 Vid Cards?

I built my own custom pc rig about 3 years ago its specs are1 GB Corsair Ram with Heat syncsGeforce 6800 Ultra 256 MB
AMD Athalon 64 Processor 3000+ 1.81 GHzI guess thats all i can dish out i mean im not to kean on pcs but just know enough but i've been out of the loop because of consoles and lack of good games, but seeing that starcraft 2 is coming out and as well as crysis and Farcry 2 are coming out, i wanna know whats a good video card for the 07/08 season i know i have to upgrade the ram and the processor soon but as far as video cards go what would you suggest? 07/08 Vid Cards?
I would reccomend one of the Geforce 8 series video cards by Nvidia. If you want to play Crysis and have some decent frames your gonna need a video card with 640mb. You can get a 8800 GTS with 640mb im not sure for how much, but if I had to take a guess I would say anywhere from 300 to 400 dollars im sure its less than that. I have a Geforce 8800 GTS 320mb and it has worked great for me. Well I hope that helps.07/08 Vid Cards?
I would suggest radeon x1950 or geforce 7950gtxIf you have money radeon hd 2900 or geforce 8800gtx
Well it depends on what in game settings you want to play on. If your going for the high (note not ''ultra high'')rangethenthemostbangforyourbucknowistobuya620mb8800GTS.Ithinktheygoforabout$350inUSA(IliveinEurope.)As you say you definiately need to upgrade the processor. When you want to get your money's worth in that area overclocking is everything. You can easily get a mid range Core2 duo processor up to the same level as a processor that costs several hundrered bucks more. So personally I would buy a Core 2 Quad Q6600 and overclock it. If you buy Quad your future proof in the processor area a tests indicate that you gain performance in todays games too (at the same clock speed as a Core2 duo)Wellitdependsifyouwanttooverclock or not, but for the GPU I would go with 8800GTS.
well i think my boards a socket a for AMD or can i fit an intel chip in there
Oddly enough, I have the exact same computer, except I built mine in 2005 and it was with a 6600GT.I just picked up a 7900GS, and I can max out all the Orange Box games and the UT3 demo at 1680x1050 even with the rest of the PC being so old, so if you get an 8600 or 8800 or so, anything better than a 7900GS, you should be good to go.
cool thanks
I suggest a 2900 PRO its only 250-300 %26its allmost like a 2900 XT 512 .... %26 its easealy overcloackeble ... with it you can surpass the standard 2900XT performence !
Well I don't know how much you're willing to spend. I picked up a Gefoce 8500 512mb DDR2 card for just around $100 on sale. Runs source on every thing on max, 16x atmo, max AA and all high settings. Love the card, if only my CPU was as good.
alot of people keep referring to source, but im talking mainly about the crytek engine
I would say that you can buy 8600 GT or sth like this. Dunno if the very-best-cards like 8800 GTX are worth the time if soon enough there will be new and more powerful cards. 8600 works pretty fine and it's quite cheap :)
ummm, why dont u wait for nvidia's lineup of 9xxx cards? they shld be releasing in a month or two
Yes. This was my system:AMD x2 3800+. 2gb ddr800. 6800gs. This gave me a 3dmark of 2700 ish.I bought an 8800gts 320mb (MSI OC edition) and with the same system I now get a 3dmark of over 7900 at stock speeds. A big difference by just changing to that card so that is what I recommend. From stock speeds of 575 / 1700 I run it OC'd at 655 / 1990 and still doesn't get too hot with the stock cooler so it's obviously a good OC'er too.The card cost 260 euros (I think about $220). I also had to buy a new psu though which cost another 80 euros (I bought a 600w though but could have gotten away with a 450w at around 30% cheaper). Still a bargain to me. Get one!
