Hey guys, i thought i'd throw my 2 cents in about games coming out these days, PC games of course. Lately it feels like we've been getting the short straw when it comes to games, why? freaking consoles. Games that are coming out these days (especially games for windows) are riddled with the crap you find on a console. Crummy control configuration for one, i recently downloded the jericho demo, and it has console splashed all over it. Since when do you get a mouse sensitivity setting thats either ''low, medium, or high'' what a farce, thing is damn near unplayable. Anyway, back to the point. I miss the days when PC games were made with one thought in mind, the damn PC. I hate the fact that developers are being lazy gits and basically porting a console game to the PC and call it a release, it's a joke. I downloaded the Universe at War Beta client and joined up the other day, once i got to ''log into your Windows Live! account'' i uninstalled the thing, this is freaking console rubbish i don't wanna do this! Taking me through telling me i need an Xbox live account to do this, i don't own a freaking xbox for the love of god. Even gamespot have fallen into this rubbish. If a game is released on a console and the PC, guarenteed gomespot will reveiw the console version, leaving the rest of us to guess. On the spot the other day, we had a look at the Gears of War PC release, and what does jeff do? whips out a damn xbox controller and starts telling us about it. Why didn't he just load up the freaking xbox version? We wanna see how it runs on a mouse and keyboard because the majority of people buying it on the PC, will not have a controller and if we did, did you not think we'd already have such a legendary game!? Completely stupid. All I''m saying is, if your gonna release a game on the PC, make it for the PC. I'm sick and tired of seeing little Xbox buttons everywhere in my game. We're the ones who pay through the nose for high end systems, show us some respect and make a game for us, rather than a stupid inferior port. Anyway, rant over, gimmie your thoughts :PPC gamers getting the short straw?
I feel ya man. It is a bit frustraiting.I will say though, that jericho was fun for me, yeah it was repetitive and yeah you couldn't jump, but it was fun. Bioshock also played very well... try to think of it as us getting games that used to be console exsclusives now because consoles are catching up. Sure, we have less exsclusives, but so do they. Virtually every xbox 360 game worth playing is making it's way to PC... and that is deffinatley a positive for PC gaming. For exsclusives we've got crysis, good mmo's, UT3 (for now), painkiller overdose... and more of course. We're also backwards compatable for 15 years of gaming goodness... what console can say that. PC gamers getting the short straw?
Yea hooray we got MMO's. We get to buy a game then pay monthly to pretend we have a social life. Yea I hate how the PC is getting screwed over just so the consoletards can get their game first. If you want proof look at Assassins Creed. It was recently anounced as gold. I damn near crapped my pants cause I've been looking foward to this game for so long. Then I read the article, and the PC is suspiciously absent. So I take a look at the AC page and guess what. Its been delayed to 08! While the consoles are getting it on the 13th. I'm ****ing pissed. And on a side note, the Universe at War thing caused me to uninstall it before I played it too.
Developers want to make money so they focus on the consoles and then leave PC owners as a second thought (not all developers of course). We still get a few PC only games though. Play the witcher, that game is PC only game coming out that is supposed to be awesome. The fact is people want to make money so this is what happens.
u need to stop being pessimistic: 1. pc games are at least AUD$20 than console games making them better value for sometimes a better deal (added features ect.)2. the reason why we have this Live! 'rubbish' is so that console haters like you can try to beat them at their own games!3. u cant blame gamespot for reviewing the console version of the game because there is a majority of people who own consoles over pc. and the differences between the console and pc versions are usually minimal anyway. him talking about the controller is relevant because its a good way to show off the controller and how it works on pc. sure that could have been done on a pc exclusive, but gears was a massive 360 title and its interesting to know. having the 360 controller isnt a bad thing- imagine playing a sport game without it- its almost rubbish! too many hot keys when you could have just pressed the one button!and the only pc game ive seen with 'little xbox buttons everywhere' didnt even have the buttons- that was blazing angels: squadrans of WW2. it was just the tutorial guy telling me to push the 'left stick up'.console games can only help gaming overall because of the innovations they bring with new releases- these can be put into pc games too my biased friend!
Haven't played Crysis yet it seems. :P
I haven't seen any of these problems you mention with games made exclusively for PC.
Well, I haven't played jericho or universe at war, I have an xbox 360 and 4 controllers, which most of the time I play on my tv, occasionally play with those controllers on my pc games like nfsmw, prince of persia, or tomb raider, BUT most of my pc games I play them with keyboard and mouse, (I consider myself a pc gamer by the way) and I find this trend of forcing you with Crummy control configuration and the log into your Windows Live! account thing, atrocious, disgusting, and a total shame on their part, yes I have the controllers, yes I have an xbox live acount but MOST OF THE TIME I WANT TO PLAY MY PC GAMES AS PC GAMES ARE PLAYED, I don't want to find in the future that I can't use a mouse or keyboard on my RTS or FPS pc games, A right thumb DOES NOT EQUAL TO A MOUSE IN ACCURACY, microsoft wants total control (no pun intended) of the pc maket, right down to selling more accessories to pc gamers.
console games can only help gaming overall because of the innovations they bring with new releases- these can be put into pc games too my biased friend!
Hmm, I'm gonna have to disagree with this.I see where your coming from.. but just hear me out. PC gaming is the foundation of innovation, I believe. There are so many genres and so many feature and mod filled games that it's almost insane. Genres, in which consoles struggle at in fact. I feel too many devs recently are straying away and leaving us the leftovers, or either leaving the innovation more on the console side of the table. So while I agree that we'll see more Xbox games now and in the future, I would rather substitute those and the time spent on them with PC exclusives. This would put a smile back on alot of PC gamers. Sure, the occasional PC gamer is looking forward to such Xbox ports and that's fine. Look at the PS3 now. With stronger support of Xbox from the community and devs, the quality of PS3 titles is going further and further down the drain. I might be exagerating, but you get my point. I hope all this focus on consoles doesn't decrease the quality of PC games further and further. We all know PC is here to stay, but I can see a slow bleed in the making here. Hope not though. So I ask.. Is it worth it for a few dozen Xbox 360 hits?
I fully share your frustration; game developers are now behaving like typical ''companies'' that want to make money by hook or by crook. consequently they undermine the spirit of the whole thing . this is why more games are coming out with controls styled after console games.
I wish more of these developers would do what was done with Ghost Recon Advanced Warfigher 1 %26 2. Now, I know many of the original Ghost Recon fans don't like the direction the series took, but at least there was an actual PC version and a seperate console version, instead of just a console to PC port. Twould be nice if more developers did this. Oh yeah, and I can't stand it when there's no quicksave in FPS games like GRAW 1 %26 Rainbow Six: Vegas where one shot can potentially kill you. Damn that's annoying. It's no fun playing through the same section over and over again. Give us PC gamers the choice of whether or not we want that. Give us checkpoint saves %26 the ability to quicksave. It can't be that difficult.Edited because this stupid forum randomly fuses my words together.
oldskooler i know what you mean but isnt microsoft going for connecting the 360 and the computer? i thought thats what having Live! was all about? i see what you mean about the slow bleed though and it would be sad to see the pc go down the drain
I'm with you on this one. I'm so sick of being fed console games on my PC... if I wanted to play a console game, I'd be playing it on the console! But seeing as how I neither own nor am interested in owning a console, I'd like my PC game to be a PC game. My hope is that Assassin's Creed's PC version delay is so that they can tailor it for the PC, and make it less evidently a console port. Yep, that's my fervent hope.../Z
3. u cant blame gamespot for reviewing the console version of the game because there is a majority of people who own consoles over pc.
You need to rephrase that sentence. As it is now....you are horribly horribly wrong
I play mostly PC exclusives, I figure most console game developers don't care about innovation since they only work with consoles outdated hardware. PC is where your going to find the most ambitious and innovative games.

It can't be helped. In the eyes of ''gaming coporate HQ'' (thats the gaming business dudes) PC gaming isn't making any cash. Consoles on the other hand are a cash cow. So corporations and developers are flocking like sheep to make the profit they need on consoles. If they ignored consoles alltogether it would be like walking their business off a cliff onto the craggy rock below. Prioritising a PC game in any genre other than mmo/rpg isn't going to make you your cash as much as making console centric games. This is why you'll find that alot of PC titles are more construed towards a console system saving time and money. So you should just think yourself lucky that these guys are making any PC games atall dammit.
I know the feeling when restarting a whole area because of death. In Farcry you aren't allowed to quick save at any moment either. However, after playing FEAR... I noticed that I save too often, and I know what the enemies next moves are when I load. When you restart and area all together... You have less of a chance to predict your enemies moves. The feeling of clearing and area is more satisfying and ultimately feels less cheap.BTW there is a bit of quirks in this forum... I can't type cl@ss with a proper 'a'.
This might sound a little harsh, but instead of whining on forums, don't buy games that are ports. Simple as that. Vote with your wallets. Also: I've said it before and I'll say it again. Dead hardware (=consoles) are not to blame for bad ports, devs are. Send an e-mail to them or something.
Something which I discovered about the Crysis demo which was both a little comical but also rather sad:I had left my 360 controller plugged in (I use it for PES and a few other games that are better with a gamepad) and obviously for an FPS I wanted to use my K/M, but Crysis detected my 360 gamepad and decided that for some reason that I was going to be wanting to use the gamepad over keyboard and mouse so ALL the contextual tips in the game were ''Press Start/B/Trigger/Right Analogue Stick''.Being an FPS vet it wasn't an issue as I had already set up the controls to how I like them, but the way it defaulted to gamepad simply because there was one plugged in was a little retarded.
Yeah. No Simpsons game on PC?Damn you EA!
