I think there are 2 major engines today: unreal3 and crytek2. Imo unreal3 is the best engine today because the engine looks very good but also offers great performance.Unreal3 ist great doing metal and shiny surfaces, shadows too, but crytek2 ist great doing open spaces like islands. So what do u think?Best engine : Unreal 3 or Crytek2?
? You haven't even seen the Unreal engine do much yet. The demo doesn't show much, but it shows enough. wait till the games actually come out.Best engine : Unreal 3 or Crytek2?

Unreal engine 3 is by far a better experience then Crytek2 due to suberb visuals at no cost of performance. I highly doubt Crytek2 will be a major engine on console platform due to such requirement to even surpass Unreal engine 3.
this should settle the matter...http://www.imagtp.com/?p=17
cryengine 2 cause every game released on Ureal engine 3 has sucked so far, just been bad 360 ports and dont even have AA and hardly any graphic options in the menus, atleast cryengine 2 was built ground for for pc only.

Judging from recent demos from both engines i think the both suck right now. UT3 and Gears are both FUGLY but performance wise they are great. Crysis looks superb but its too much of a system hog.

I've been waiting to talk about the Unreal 3 engine for awhile. The Unreal 3 engine is lame. All of the games that use it share the same grimey look. It's system hogs and the games themselves don't look that great. Very disappointed. Rainbow Six Vegas, Gears of War, and UT3 just don't look good to me.
I been behind Crytek 2 for about 17 months now and even if you was to max out Crysis it still wont come close to what was on the promise. It's as if they scale back the engine to even be playable by cards present cards ie 8 series, 7 series. I think 2 years later down you will then see Crysis look as it was promised by the power of Crytek2 and if Crytek cant do this for their game to showcase the enginethen no one can including those that may be utlizing the engine to power a console game, I highly doubt it becomes popular in present consoles. Unreal Engine 3looks phenominal if you was to also add the performance as well(Gears of Wars, Call of Duty2-4, Unreal Tournament 3).
I was about to say UE3 because it runs a lot better, but that's understandable. Crysis engine 2 looks ground breaking, it might not run very well yet, but when you think about the first level of Crysis, when you para jump into the island, you are actually seeing physical geometry rendered in the background, that entire level is right there.
I just finished crysis on DX 10 .... with a 2900 XT 512 %26 it run just fine 40-45 FPS's but besides the outdoor envirometns %26 the face animations ... i was not impressed unreal 3 can do alll sorts of stuff %26 does it great starting from the effects to the enviroments .... but then FarCRy 2 looks evan more awsome with a larger space %26 weather system , fire effects that spread animals / wildlife ...%26 lets not forget bu the upcoming tech 5 engine from ID that looks very realistic %26 because of the megatexture tech it works superb on alll kind of computer ... %26 everyday i wonder what are those 150 ppl fom VALVE software doing .... heh EPIC has only 98 ! Who knows what SOURCE 2 will be like :D !
Well, on my specs (p4 2.8, x1950pro agp), if I turn the settings on Crysis to low and run on a low resolution, I can get high framerates. If I do the same with the UT3 demo, (or even worse, make it look like legoland) I get same framerates. I can't get acceptable framerates in UT3, but I can in Crysis. And crysis looks much better on low that UT3.I'm impressed with cryengine 2, not super cpu bound, I can't wait to see how it runs with my new cpu that'll be in next week.
crytek 2 is better in graphicsandunreal 2 is better in performance,to me crytek 2 has more potential than unreal 2,it justhas toget its bugs fixed to improve on performance.
just finished Crysis on Vista. I run an e6300 stock with 1 gig of ram, 8600gt Oc'd. Might i say, it runs beautifully. hiccups here and there, but its due to ram. great game...game visuals. and compared to the unreal demo, tramples down upon it.
ut3 and bioshock run pretty well, ut3 especially looks great plays very well. But Crysis looks much better on med-high and runs pretty good, no contest.

[/QUOTE]''too much of a system hog'' ? well it's because you want it to have good physics and visual right? that's why it requires high end equipment.
