Looking to pick up older games

Even though my system is fairly strong (could use a stronger am2 processor but thats going to have to wait) I'm not just a graphics over gameplay/substance kind of guy. I also enjoy collecting things as well. (but not too crazy with spending tons on expensive stuff) I know that some of the lurkers on this board have been playing with their p.c's for a decade if not more and I was hoping for some recommendations on older games to look for. (Anything I can't find at BB, or stamp a store) The only kind of game I don't enjoy is rts. Looking to pick up older games
Nobody? Come on. This is what makes the p.c awesome, backwards compatibility. Looking to pick up older games
How old are we willing to go, here? Old, like early-90's-DOS-games old? Mid-to-late-90's-Win95/98 old? Early-XP-days old?
win 95 and later
Get half life, Lost Vikings 1 n 2 (very old but best games ever), Starcraft (still has online community!) and Diablo series
well i know of a few games in that era...umm lets see.
Civilization 2 although it is a turn based game. it still really fun, The Red Baron and Daggerfall
Got half life played half of it. Might look at daggerfall but its around $50. But its collectable.
Advenure games: ( most gamers don't like this genre because you actually have to THINK )
 • Full Throttle
 • Monkey Island series
 • Broken Sword series
 • Gabriel Knight series
 • Maniac Mansion
 • Day of the Tentacle
 • Discworld series
 • Grim Fandango
 • The Longest Journey series
RPGs:
 • Baldur's Gate series
 • Planescape: Torment
 • IceWind Dale series
 • Neverwinter Nights series
 • Fallout series
 • Freedom Force series
 • The Elder Scrolls series

I really enjoy adventure games. Thanks for the list. I own longest journey and grim will be my first purcase.
If you can find it you should really play maniac mansio day of the tentacle, damn that game was good
If you can find it you should really play maniac mansio day of the tentacle, damn that game was good
I think it can be had on ebay, for a price.
Like someone said, this list gets posted every day ^_^Here are some of my favourite older games which I still enjoy today:Deus ExQuake IIIRoller Coaster TychoonAliens vs Predator (can be tricky to run under XP)Shogo: Mobile Armor Division (not that well known, anime first person shooters from the makers of F.E.A.R. and N.O.L.F.)Tomb Raider II: Dagger of Xian (loved it :P)Driver (game where you drive away from cops, it was pretty fun, bad sequels)Midtown Madness I / II (also driving games)KotOR I %26 II (RPGs)System Shock 2Diablo II: LoDI know I forgot a ton but I'm too lazy to go look at my old boxes atm
Can't edit for some reason. I know you said no RTS games, but this one is a bit different and doesnt involve any resource gathering:Myth II: SoulblighterThis game has what is probably my favourite narrative in any game ever. The story isn't exceptional and the actual method of storytelling is simple but it turns out soooo great. Maybe you can play it with cheats or something because it's really worth experiencing (most of the story is told before the missions). The first one is supposedly also good, haven't played it
EASY! Get HL1, HL:Opposing Force, HL:Blueshift, Gunman, CS1.6 and you're all set. Gotta love the hl engine, it is crappy, but awesome!
I have the half life platinum pack. Its sweet. Thanks for recomendations here.
System Shock 2, LBA2, Fallout series, Theif series, Balder's Gate series, Neverwinter Night, Tron 2.0, NOLF series,The Longest Journey, Syberia...
System Shock 2, LBA2, Fallout series, Theif series, Balder's Gate series, Neverwinter Night, Tron 2.0, NOLF series,The Longest Journey, Syberia...
Good suggestions. I haven't tried Tron or NOLF.
Yeah, I was looking at the no one lives forever games too. They're not too expensive.System shock 2.... $50Maniac Manison 2 $70. (like buying an xbox 360 special waste of dvd shudder)
If you're a space flight sim kind of guy at all, you should check out Freespace2 and the community engine upgrades at www.hard-light.net. They have the game looking utterly fantastic for something that came out in '99. :)Oh, and I'll second the suggestion for the Baldur's Gate series. :D
One of the most underrated games of all time is SWAT 4 Gold! The Gold edition includes The Stetchkov Syndicate expansion pack and is just excellent. I just got it myself and its really funny because I have all the new games, WiC, Bioshock, The Orange Box, Crysis Demo but guess what. I keep going back to SWAT 4 over all of them! The game is just so addictive and has so much replay ability. Infact I have only played 2 levels so far because I keep replaying them. You score an 80 and then you'll be out driving or something and just cant quit thinking of other ways you could try to do the mission better and get a better score. And because the bad guys are always in a different location its different every time.SWAT 4 Gold with The Stetchkov Syndicate is just AWSOME!
