dead topic

note to mods: NO need for thread,. PLus i ended up loving the game.dead topic
The shooting is clunky, but the story and the rpg elements are superb.dead topic
Yeah, I absolutely loved Deus Ex. I was much more interested in the game as a whole and it's story rather than pulling headshots though. Maybe competitive style or action based shooters are more your style, but if I were you, give it as much time as you possibly can tolerate for it to grow on you :)It is very strange you are getting slowdowns though, it's such an old game, and I don't remember any slowdowns even years ago.Good Luck

Well, early on in the game your combat abilities are really weak, but you don't HAVE to use combat in this game. Later on though when you're really good with rifles/pistols you can kill lots and lots of dudes. I can see why some people don't like the combat because it's not really action combat like Half-Life or something. You could always go for melé–‘ weapons though, isn't the first aug you find the strength upgrade?Anyway, you should definitely stick with the game for a while even if you're not hooked at first. The first level is universally hated, it's a bad opening of the game.

I really enjoyed it personally. It could one of those ''you had to be there'' things, it was great back in the day.complete it and then decide weather you ejoyed it or not, is my advice.

Stick with it. Your skills do kinda suck in the beginning and that first level is actually one of the harder ones because you have no good special abilities. With practice and patience, you can get those kill shots but you'll need to get in close if you don't have the sniper rifle from the beginning. Focus on developing your stealth for that level. Don't try to be John Wayne and mow down everybody. That's not the point of the mission. Don't worry, later on there will be plenty of time to turn up the ultraviolence.
the first level of deus ex is quite poor. its the bit of the game i hate the most. there quick ways around it but ure just going to need to get through that. its after that, thats when the game starts to pick up. the training level is also rubbish.also are u sure uve upped ure shooting skills and such like? shooting with 0 shooting skill is frustrating.finally...i gauge my level of invisibility by how dark my hand is in the game. i dont know if thats 100% accurate but i find it does the job.
the combat in the beginning is clunky for a reason. Just stick with it, later on you will understand why so many people Love this game.
It's an amazing game, but if you try to play it like and FPS ''your gonna have a bad time.''
Yeah don't really plan on running and gunning from the start, since most of your skills will be weak to begin with. I always found the stealth portion of the game more satisfying, anyway. Also, last time I checked I didn't get a ''stealth meter'' when I tried hiding in real life, so why is one in game so necessary? You'll eventually figure out what's a good place to hide and what's not.
the combat is definately not the best, firefights arent really action packed, but what makes the game shine is everything else. My favorite feature of the game is that there is always at least 3+ ways to get to your objective. When you will get your stealth pistol, youll see the combat gets better, imo.
with the combat aside it is still a solid game and a good experience. Now the second deus ex is another story for another thread....
omg no you just didn't put project igi and deus ex in the same sentence!!! project igi is bad, the second even worse.
Deus Ex is one of the greatest games of all time. It was also fantastic on console. If you dont like something it doesn't mean its 'bad', its just not to your taste. Maybe you have bad taste.
The multiple ways of problem solving is so great. I'm playing through the game again for the Xth time and I just found a new area that I've never seen before :>
Hey. Show a little respect here, all right? Deus Ex may not be to your liking, but that does not mean its a bad game. On the contrary, gamers universally respect it.Now, the shooting mechanics are well done since its an FPS-RPG. This isnt some run and gun FPS. You need to pick your skills carefully, and pick your shots even more carefully. If youre having trouble, equip the laser sight you found in the bunker of the Libery Stature level on your stealth pistol. That helps imensely early on.As for the stealth mechanics, I thought they were great. True, there is no ''light gem'' mechanism like in thief or splinter cell, its more of a feeling thing. But its simple and fun: crouch and sneak to get up on someone, and hide behind something if they turn around. And keep in mind that this isnt a stealth game, though I feel it does it fairly well.
